About Julie Van Puffelen
An experienced project manager with a clinical nursing background, Julie Van Puffelen works to improve clinical documentation and functionality for nursing and ancillary software end users in hospitals and other patient-oriented organizations across the nation. She began preparing for her career as a student at Edgewood College in Madison, where she received a bachelor of science in nursing. While obtaining this degree, she completed training as a student nurse and certified nursing assistant in conjunction with Meriter Hospital’s inpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation unit. After graduating, Julie Van Puffelen worked as a staff nurse with the neurosciences unit at St. Mary’s Hospital and returned to Meriter Hospital to continue work with patients there.
In 2003, Ms. Van Puffelen was hired as a member of the implementation services division at Epic, a software development company with applications for hospitals and other health care operations. Drawing on her experience as a professional nurse, she coordinated with chief nurse officers and other nursing and ancillary operational leadership as an executive nurse liaison and formed Epic’s independent application review process in the interest of customer usability and end-user happiness. In addition, she oversaw Inpatient Clinical Documentation and Clinical Case Management workflow and software configure as a project manager, during which time she brought a wide variety of initiatives to fruition on time and within budget. Her responsibilities at Epic also included mentoring software analysts as well as coordinating closely with operational leaders during all project phases from pre-planning phases to live implementation.
Ms. Van Puffelen is currently pursuing a master’s certificate in project management at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
